Mean Green Racing (MGR) is the Formula SAE team at The University of North Texas. The team is a collegiate, co-ed, multidisciplinary, and student-run organization that was established in Fall 2012. MGR operates like a professional engineering company to produce a quality finished product – the racecar. Our Chief Engineer, Project Manager, and Operations Manager lead the organization, while the Design Leads keep each department on track. MGR is divided into eight design groups: Powertrain, Drivetrain, Chassis, Ergonomics, Suspension, Electrical, Aerodynamics, and Composites.
Mean Green Racing creates excellent professionals through hands-on experience by engineering competitive formula racecars. We distinguish ourselves through our commitment to in-house manufacturing, diverse perspectives, and personal initiative. As a student-led organization, we priotitize student-to-student mentorship, research, and accountability in the pursuit of automotive greatness.

Each year, Formula SAE teams are challenged to design, fabricate, and compete with an open-wheeled formula-style racecar. The racecar is intended for commercial production with sales targeting the amateur weekend autocross enthusiasts. Based on a predetermined set of templates and rules set by SAE International - whose purpose is to ensure engineering safety and promote clever problem-solving skills - teams must design the quickest, most effective racecar possible while minimizing cost and maximizing reliability as they utilize the latest technologies. The various competitions welcome up to 120 teams from around the world who have spent up to 12 months designing, building, and preparing their racecar for competition. Teams are awarded points based on a series of rigorous and challenging static and dynamic events - including engineering design, cost analysis, business presentations, solo performance trials, and high-performance endurance.
